I take a three pronged, harm reduction approach to creating a culture of consent for the events I support.
CultureConsent culture only happens when the culture of event has embraced consent. This means from the moment they look at the event there should be an understanding of the expectation of consent.
That expectation can be communicated through the website copy, agreement upon purchasing a ticket, and education upon entry to the event. |
PolicyPolicy provides a strong foundation for when an incident does happen. There's no guessing game for how an incident will be handled. There's nothing worse than getting a report and not knowing what to do and having to become the judge, jury, and executioner on a matter that isn't easy to understand.

SupportSupport comes from implementing a peer-to-peer counseling team. Having a support team at your event normalizes that while the party is happening not everyone is having a good time. This team

Definition of Consent
At its best, consent is an ongoing collaboration between two or more people in constant verbal, physical, and emotional dialogue about what each other needs to willingly, safely, and pleasurably engage in an interaction with one another. The latin root con-sent literally means "with", "feeling".
- Affirmative: Agreement was reached before an activity began
- Informed: Risks are commonly understood
- Specific: You have negotiated the particular range of activities you'll be engaging in together
- Uncoerced: No one was pressured or manipulated to participate in an activity they had reservations about.
- Ongoing: Consent is re-upped throughout the encounter. Consent can be revoked at any time during the encounter.
- Competent: each person sound enough mind to decide to participate in an activity. (mention inebriation and our value around being sober enough to make good decisions)
